
Cougars Drop Two On First Day Of CCSA Championships

LAKEPOINT, Ga. --- Taylor Foley (Agoura Hills, Calif.) and Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) posted a pair of wins in the fifth flight, as the College of Charleston beach volleyball team fell to No. 3 seed Georgia State, 4-1, and No. 10 seed UAB, 3-2, on the first day of the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championships.
Georgia State (20-12) claimed the first four flights to defeat the College of Charleston (11-9), 4-1, in the morning session, before UAB (11-17) rallied for a 3-2 win over the Cougars in the afternoon.
Foley and Freed registered the first point of the day for the Cougars in the fifth flight against Georgia State, as the duo picked up their 13th win of the season with a 19-21, 21-15, 15-8 victory. The tandem tallied win No. 14 against UAB with a 21-12, 21-18 victory, while Maddie Hills (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) and Riana Brennan (Los Gatos, Calif.) posted a hard-fought 21-19, 21-23, 15-9 win in the first flight. Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) and Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) dropped a tough fourth flight by scores of 17-21, 21-19, 3-15.
Charleston will wrap up the weekend with matchups against No. 2 seed LSU and No. 6 seed Florida Atlantic on Saturday at 9:00 am and 1:30 pm, respectively.
