Cougars Pick Up Pair Of SAISA Wins

MT PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston sailing team picked up a pair of SAISA titles at the SAISA Team Race and Coed Championships on Saturday and Sunday at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex, while finishing third at the Emily Wick Women's Interconference in New London, Conn.
At the SAISA Team Race on Saturday, the Cougars posted a 10-1 overall record while second-place Eckerd finished with an 8-3 mark. Stefano Peschiera (Lima, Peru) and Grace McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.) paced the Cougars, while the duos of Jack Cusick (Fairfield, Conn.) and Chloe Dapp (Newport Beach, Calif.), and Christophe Killian (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Elizabeth Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.) helped seal the victory for The College.
The Cougars emerged from the SAISA Coed with a two-point victory over South Florida with 67 points compared to 69 for the Bulls. Peschiera and McCarthy edged USF's duo by one point, 28 to 29, in A-Division, while Cusick and Dapp placed second in B-Division with 39 points – two behind Eckerd's total of 37.
At the Emily Wick Women's, the Cougars finished third with 245 points – six behind second-place Rhode Island. Junior skipper Paris Henken (Coronado, Calif.) and crew of senior Irene Abascal (Guatemala City, Guatemala) and sophomore Annabel Carrington (White Stone, Va.) posted 119 points to finish third in A-Division. Freshman Kelly-Ann Arrindell (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad) skippered B-Division to 126 points alongside crew of Abascal and sophomore Caroline Bracken (Bridgewater, Mass.).
The Cougars will be back in action next weekend when they compete for the Thompson Trophy on Saturday and Sunday, April 15 and 16, in New London, Conn.; and the Navy Spring Coed Intersectional on Sunday, April 16 in Annapolis, Md.
