Fuenfstueck Caps Career With Top-25 Finish At NCAA Championships

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. --- Laura Fuenfstueck (Langen, Germany) capped her career with the College of Charleston women's golf team in style on Monday, carding a final-round 76 (+4) to finish in a tie for 24th at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship held on Monday at Rich Harvest Farms.
With her final round score of 76, Fuenfstueck finishes the program's first individual appearance at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship with a three-round total of 78-75-76 = 229 (+13). She ended the weekend in an eight-way tie at 13-over par – 12 shots behind the individual medalist.
"What an outstanding accomplishment to finish in the Top 25 of our national championship!" praised head coach Jamie Futrell. "Laura is the best player that has ever been at the school. She will be missed greatly - both on and off the golf course. It has been an honor to coach her."
The highlight of her final round undoubtedly came moments after making the turn from the back to the front nine, when Fuenfstueck carded back-to-back birdies on the second and third to pull back to one-over-par for the round. She finished the tournament tied for fifth in par-five scoring at five-under-par and a scoring average of 4.58. For the weekend, Fuenfstueck carded five birdies and one eagle.
