Cougars Rally For Epic Five-Set Win Over Baylor

PULLMAN, Wash. --- Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.), Krissy Mummey (Hudson, Ohio), and Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ky.) combined for 47 kills to lead the College of Charleston volleyball team to a thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind win over Baylor at Washington State's 2017 Cougar Challenge for the program's first victory over a Big-12 program since 2005.
College of Charleston (6-2) won the match by scores of 19-25, 27-25, 21-25, 25-20, and 15-6, and never trailed in either the fourth or fifth set to take down (RV) Baylor (4-2). The Cougars tallied 67 kills, 66 digs, and 10 blocks while attacking at a .259 clip; Baylor recorded 68 kills, 69 digs, eight blocks, and a .227 hitting percentage.
Rachel paced the Cougars with her second double-double of the season that included 18 kills, 10 digs, and two blocks. Mummey tallied 16 kills, three blocks, and a .464 hitting percentage, while Madison posted 13 kills, six blocks, and hit .407 to pick up all-tournament honors.
Jane Feddersen (Leesburg, Va.) added nine kills and six blocks, as Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) fell one dig shy of a double-double with 52 assists, nine digs, and three kills. McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) turned in a match-high 23 digs and Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) chipped in 12 digs and eight kills.
Kate Staiger led the way for Baylor with a match-high 22 kills to go along with 15 digs. Shelly Fanning and Aniah Philo each added 14 kills, while Hannah Lockin posted a double-double with 55 assists, 13 digs, and five blocks. Philo and Fanning chipped totals of 11 digs and six blocks, respectively.
The Cougars return to the court next Saturday against Butler at the Kent State Invitational in Kent, Ohio. First serve is slated for 2:00 pm.
