Charleston Falls To Presbyterian In Back And Forth Game

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Despite out-shooting Presbyterian College from the field and holding the Blue Hose scoreless through the final seven minutes of the game, the College of Charleston women's basketball team fell 71-65 on Friday afternoon to move to 4-6 on the season.
The Blue hose raced to an early 5-0 lead, Charleston forcing four turnovers and using their own 6-0 run to nose ahead midway through the first.
Latrice Perkins fed Baileigh Larson to level the game up at 12-12, Arynn Eady grabbing four points from the bench in the opening quarter.
The Cougars came out in the second quarter firing by making four straight shots from the field. Deja Ford opened her account for the afternoon with a three to give The College the lead with a Huff jumper making it 21-18.
Presbyterian came straight back at the Cougars to take a 33-25 lead, Madison Taylor knocking down a three to cut into the Blue Hose lead. Taylor added two more points via free throws to hit 50 career points, Broughton also hitting 50 career points via a layup.
The teams exchanged baskets through the third until Presbyterian used a 10-0 run to pull ahead 55-42 with Charleston going cold from the field through the period.
Eady scored a career high 10 points with a layup in the fourth, Perkins and Larson adding baskets to cut the lead to 65-57 with five minutes left. A steal by Darien Huff and finish by Perkins capped an 8-0 Charleston run and forced a Presbyterian timeout.
Larson finished under the basket to cut the Blue Hose lead to four, the teams exchanging points as the game entered the final minute of action. Larson tying her career high of 11 points for the second straight game.
Charleston continued to push, holding the Blue Hose scoreless from the field through the last 7 minutes, but shots wouldn't fall for The College as Presbyterian iced the game from the free throw line.
With the loss the Cougars move to 4-6 on the season and now take a 10-day gap before a New Year's Eve matchup against George Mason in Fairfax, Va.
