
College of Charleston Athletics To Recognize Fall 2017 "Elite 15" at William & Mary Game

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston Athletics will honor its Fall 2017 Elite 15 – student-athletes with the highest term grade-point average from each of The College's 19 varsity sports programs – at the CofC men's basketball game versus William & Mary on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. (ET) at TD Arena.
Director of Athletics Matt Roberts will be joined by Provost Brian McGee and Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. Vince Benigni to recognize 217 student-athletes, who earned a 3.0 or better term GPA in Fall 2017.
College of Charleston student-athletes commit to competitive excellence both in athletics and in the classroom. As a whole, they averaged above a 3.0 term-and cumulative-GPA last spring, and Fall 2017 was the 16th-consecutive semester that student-athletes have averaged a 3.0 or better in the classroom.
CofC student-athletes represented 30 different majors and 26 are also members of the CofC Honors College.
The "Elite 15" will be announced during the first media timeout of the second half. This semester's group includes: senior Evan Bailey (chemistry) of men's basketball, senior Mary Kate Bowers (marketing) of women's soccer, junior Jake Budde (sociology) of men's golf, junior Lydia Bussey (special education) of women's track & field / cross country, sophomore Cailin Dorsey (public health & biology) of women's basketball, senior Taylor DuPree (business administration and hospitality & tourism management) of softball, sophomore Scotty Frantz (finance) of men's soccer, freshman Olivia Hamilton (undeclared) of women's golf, junior Benedikt Henning (psychology) of men's tennis, freshman Declan Hines (undeclared) of men's cross country, senior Logan McRae (supply chain management) of baseball, senior Helena Nyikos (international business) of women's tennis, senior Rio Parker (psychology) of equestrian, junior Devon Rachel (exercise science) of volleyball and beach volleyball and freshman Marian Williams (undeclared) of sailing.
