Equestrians Secure IHSA Zone 5 Region 3 Championship

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – The College of Charleston equestrian team secured the IHSA Zone 5 Region 3 Championship with a win at home in its final regular-season show on March 3 at Storybook Farm.

The Cougars finished in first place with 37 points followed by South Carolina with 29 points. Georgia Southern placed third (22), Lander fourth (20) and Coastal Carolina fifth (17).

Junior Shannon Rice won Open Flat (Section A), while senior Madison King took the blue ribbon in Novice Flat (Section B). Sophomore Annika Vilcins also took top honors in Walk/Trot/Canter (Section B).

Junior Sophia Meserve won the only section of Intermediate Flat followed by sophomore Elizabeth High winning Walk Trot (Section 1).

Senior Emily Rees capped off her four-year IHSA career by winning Walk/ Trot/Canter (Section C) as did senior Hannah Showell closing out the day with a win in Open Fences.
