Ortega Named CAA Player of the Week

CHARLESTON, S.C. – After taking control of the Charleston women's soccer all-points record this week, Laura Ortega has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference.

Ortega scored two goals in the two conference opening games, both free-kicks, to help Charleston to a 1-1 record through the opening week of CAA play.

The first goal, a 20-yard free-kick in the final seconds of the game, gave the Cougars their first victory over William & Mary in program history and saw Ortega move into joint-first for career points at CofC.

Ortega scored another free-kick on Sunday against Drexel, a 35-yard effort from the left wing that bounced on the six-yard line and into the top right corner, to move into sole possession of the record book with 61 points. She leads Charleston in goals (4), assists (3) and points (11) through 11 games this season.

This is Charleston's second weekly award this season and the second for Ortega in her career.
