Ford Leads All Scorers With 20 As Northeastern Defeats Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Deja Ford led all scorers with 20 points, also grabbing a team-high 7 rebounds, as the College of Charleston women's basketball team fell 87-56 to Northeastern at TD Arena on Friday evening.
The Huskies (14-5, 4-4 CAA) opening the game on a 9-2 run until Ford finished an 'and-one' after a strong finish under the rim to cut the visitors lead to 9-7.
Darien Huff hit a three for the 25th straight game to give Charleston (5-14, 1-7 CAA) their first lead of the game at 12-11, a 12-2 Cougars run capped by a pair of Tyler Collins free throws.
The Huskies came straight back with a 7-0 run, making three straight baskets, until Latrice Perkins stopped the Charleston drought with her first bucket of the game.
Ford continued to stay how with a slick move in the paint, the junior opening the second with another 'and one', hitting double-figures with the free throw for the 15th game this season.
From there the Huskies offense took over with a 19-3 burst until Ford again provided an offensive spark for Charleston with a 7-0 run to close out the half. Bri Sullivan finished at the rim with Ford knocking down five straight points to pull The College within 10 points at half-time.
Northeastern opened the third quarter on a 11-1 run to push their lead back to 20, Collins hitting her first trey with Madison Taylor also adding two baskets as the teams went back and forth through the third.
The Huskies continued to hold Charleston with a double-digit lead into the fourth. Collins adding another from deep with Ford hitting 20 points with a jumper.
Both teams cleared the benches in the closing stages of the fourth with the Huskies extending their lead over Charleston to record the 87-56 win.
The Cougars now look to a matchup against Hofstra on Superbowl Sunday, tip is set for 1 p.m. at TD Arena live on the Charleston Sports Network.
