CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston equestrian team will close out regular-season competition at the Upstate Schools Show hosted by Wofford on Saturday, Feb. 23 at FENCE in Landrum, S.C.
Seventeen riders will compete this weekend for the Cougars including junior Elizabeth High in Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter; sophomore Lauren Duffy and junior Elif Caynak in Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter; freshman Claire Thalhimer, sophomore Makenna Grierson and senior Hannah Bentz in Novice Flat; and sophomore Allyson Pace and junior Samantha Bledsoe in Novice Fences.
Sophomore Beverly Davis, freshman Raleigh Cerre and junior Molly Coyle will ride in the Individual Intermediate Flat class and Davis and sophomore Laura Crenshaw in the Individual Intermediate Fences class. In the team's last show, Coyle earned high point rider at Georgia Southern on Feb. 2.
Rounding out this weekend's competitors in the ring are senior Sophia Meserve, junior Olivia Baldwin and junior Dorian Cieslak in Individual Open Flat; and junior Gabrielle Bernier and freshman Kate Coffey in Individual Open Fences.
"We are eager to be attending our final IHSA show of the regular season," CofC Head Coach Natasha V. McCarthy said. "The team has been practicing hard and looking really sharp. Our goal is to 'point out' as many riders as we can this year, all in efforts to have a solid showing at this year's IHSA Regionals."
Four equestrians have already qualified for regionals: Bledsoe in Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter, Coyle in Novice Flat, Meserve in Intermediate Flat and Bernier in Intermediate Fences. Lander University will host IHSA Regionals on March 2 in Greenwood, S.C.
