ANNAPOLIS, Md. --- The College of Charleston sailing team placed third at the ever-competitive Navy Spring Coed on Saturday and Sunday with a strong finish, and the offshore team turned in a pair of stellar performances at Sperry Charleston Race Week to highlight a solid weekend of racing.
The Cougars rebounded from a shaky first three rotations, and finished outside the top 10 in only one race over the final 11 rotations to place third overall behind Navy and Georgetown with 135 points – seven behind second-place Georgetown.
Alie Toppa and Annabel Carrington continued their superb season with a second-place performance in B-Division. The duo finished only two points shy of division winner Navy with 43 points thanks to four race wins, and 12 top-five finishes. Skipper Augie Dale and crew Katie Lounsbury placed fifth in A-Division with 92 points after winning one race, and turning in eight top-five finishes.
The offshore team sailed in two divisions during Charleston Race Week. Team Soul finished third on the Pursuit A course, while Cougar placed seventh on the ORC-C course. Driver Emily Potter, main Michael Brandon, primary Maggie Wilcox, secondary Harrison Koller, mast Garrett McKinnon, bow Burke Anvari, and pit Emily Essi represented the Cougars on Team Soul. Team Cougar consisted of driver Jordan Wiggins, main Simon Hunter, primary Sam Tobio, secondary Stuart Henry, mast David Furst, bow Cade Morris, squirrel Skye Earhart, and pit Franny Schulte.
