
Jenny Martin Takes Second in Heptathlon at CAA Championships

Elon, N.C. – Jenny Martin earned All-CAA honors in the heptathlon for the third time in her career with a second-place finish on the final day of the conference meet at Elon.
Martin posted a career-high total of 4,719 points to finish 50 behind winner Nicolette Serratore of James Madison. Martin also finished second last spring and third as a sophomore in 2017. In the three events on Saturday, she finished second in the javelin (38.58m, 126-7) and fourth in the long jump (5.19m, 17-0 ½) and 800 (2:33.96). Her distance in the long jump was a heptathlon PR.
Two other Cougars scored in individual events. Stephanie Laudien set a PR and improved on her fourth-place standing in school history by taking sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.82m (38-9 ½). Simone Harris had a season-best throw and finished eighth in the shot put with a toss of 13.35m (43-9 ¾). That was the second-longest throw of her career.
Harris also finished ninth in the discus (44.00m, 144-4) while Brooklynn Barton (41.50, 136-2) and Courtney Brooks (38.37, 125-11) set PRs in the event. Cate Ambrose also just missed scoring with a ninth-place finish in the finals of the 1500 in a time of 4:51.05.
The Cougars also earned points in the relays. The 4x100 team of Maya Pringle, Gianna Cucinotta, Brianna Lewis and Aubree Boyle was seventh in 49.66 while the 4x400 squad of Leona Burton Rojas, Cucinotta, Kayla Ennis and Laudien was also seventh in 4:03.12.
