MIAMI, Fla. --- College of Charleston marked the start of its fall season in style over the week as senior Steven Leuck sailed to a three-point victory at the SAISA Men's Singlehanded Championship and the Cougars' coed team dropped only four points en route to an eight-point win at the North Points #2.

Leuck put himself in prime position from the start at the SAISA Men's Singlehanded Championship on Saturday with three wins in the first four races. He finished outside the top three only twice throughout the nine-race regatta to beat out Miami's Richard McCann by three points. Junior Benn Smith turned in a solid performance as well placing third with 28 points. He turned in five top-three finishes including a victory in the second race.

Junior Marian Williams narrowly missed qualifying for ICSA Nationals with a third-place performance at the SAISA Women's Singlehanded Championship on Sunday. The Hong Kong native finished the regatta with 16 points – two shy of second place – while never placing lower than third in the six-race event.

The Cougars collected their second win of the weekend in Saturday's North Points #2 in Clemson, S.C. with an eight-point victory over second-place South Carolina. Charleston finished the regatta with 10 points from six races including a dominant four-point effort in B-Division. Junior Patrick Eaton skippered the Cougars to six points in A-Division with sophomore crew Adrianna Lee as freshmen Brandon Geller and Anna Sherry cruised to victory in B-Division.

Charleston is back in action next weekend with three regattas on the schedule. The Cougars will host the SAISA Match Race Championships on Saturday, September 21 at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex, and are scheduled to travel to two events: North Points #3 on Saturday in Columbia, S.C. and the Sugar Bowl on Saturday and Sunday in New Orleans, La.
