
Cougars Post Wins at Sugar Bowl, North Points #3

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- Another weekend brought two more regatta victories for College of Charleston as the Cougars cruised to wins at the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans and North Points #3 in Columbia, S.C. The Cougars also finished third at the SAISA Match Race Championships on Saturday in Charleston while the offshore team picked up a pair of top-five finishes at the Leukemia Cup.
Charleston collected its third win of the young season at North Points #3 on Saturday in Columbia. Skipper Pierce Ornstein and crew Kiera O'Reardon represented the Cougars in A-Division while Taylor Hasson and Roxanne Snyder sailed for CofC in B-Division.
The Cougars' fourth victory of 2019 came at the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Saturday and Sunday in New Orleans. Boosted by wins in both B- and C-Divisions, Charleston won the regatta by 22 points over host Tulane. Jack Brown skippered the Cougars to a 10-point win in B-Division alongside crew Hunter Skinner, as Steven Leuck cruised to a 45-point victory in C-Division with a crew combination of Natasha Scott Morton and Katherine Lounsbury. Junior Marian Williams skippered the Cougars to a second-place performance in A-Division alongside Lounsbury and Scott Morton.
Charleston's match race team finished third at the SAISA Match Race Championships on Saturday with six wins compared to seven for second-place Jacksonville and eight for first-place Eckerd. The Cougars picked up four wins during round robin sailing and collected victories over both Eckerd and Jacksonville in final four racing. Driver William Curtiss, trimmer Max Mayol, pit Emily Essi and bow Key Becker sailed for the Cougars.
At Leukemia Cup in Charleston, Soul J36 came in second and Cougar Melges 30 finished fourth. Sailing on Soul J36 were: skipper Skye Ehrhart, main Michael Brandon, primary Sam Tobio, secondary Graham Post, pit Maggie Wilcox, mast Garrett McKinnon, bow Burke Anvari, squirrel Marina Cirillo and floater Emily Potter. Skipper Jordan Wiggins, main William Comerford, primary Cade Morris, secondary Chance Slack, pit Julianna Corso, mast Carson Shields, bow Caroline Williams and squirrel Megan Guthrie represented the College on Cougar Melges 30.
Charleston is back in action next weekend with three regattas on the schedule. The Cougars will travel to North Points #4 on Saturday, September 28 in Wilmington, N.C.; Women's Showcase Semifinal on Saturday and Sunday in Providence, R.I.; and Danmark Trophy on Saturday and Sunday in New London, Conn.
