
Two Wins Highlight Cougars' Impressive Weekend on the Water

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. --- Senior skipper Alie Toppa guided College of Charleston to a 20-point win at the Navy Spring Women's, the Cougars cruised to another win at the Charleston Coed and the offshore team finished second at the Harbor Cup in Los Angeles to highlight a superb weekend on the water for the Cougars.
The Cougars picked up their fourth win of the spring season on Saturday and Sunday at the Navy Spring Women's beating out Stanford by 20 points thanks to a stellar performance from Alie Toppa, Julia Jeffries (races 1-8) and Katie Lounsbury (9-14) in A-Division. The trio posted 58 points, three race wins and nine top-five finishes to win the division by six points. Marian Williams skippered the Cougars to a second-place finish in B-Division with crews Emily Essi (races 1-8, 11-14) and Natasha Scott Morton (9-10) splitting time on the gunwale.
Charleston collected its second win of the weekend at the Charleston Spring Coed on Saturday and Sunday at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex. The Cougars' No. 1 team won the regatta by 39 points over Wisconsin with a dominating performance in A-Division by Patrick Shannon alongside crews Max Williams (races 1-6) and Anna Cornetta (7-16). Patrick Eaton skippered the Cougars to a six-point win in B-Division with crews Peter Barron (races 1-10) and Kaili Yap (11-16).
The Cougars' No. 2 team finished eighth at the Charleston Spring Coed with 263 points. Nicole Simon and Hannah Kinder placed eighth in A-Division with 116 points while Kiera O'Reardon and Roxanne Snyder accumulated 147 points in B-Division.
Driver Jordan Wiggins propelled the Cougars to a second-place performance at the three-day Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup. He and his crew turned in a pair wins during the 10-race regatta and accumulated six top-three finishes. Joining Wiggins on the boat were main William Comerford, primary Sam Tobio, secondary Chance Slack, pit Emily Potter, squirrel Caroline Williams, mast Graham Post, bow Burke Anvari and alternate Skye Ehrhart.
Charleston concluded the weekend with a third-place finish at the Rudkin Team Race on Saturday and Sunday in St. Petersburg, Fla. The Cougars compiled a 17-7 record at the regatta including a 5-1 mark in round one to enter round two in a tie for first. Jack Brown, Max Mayol and Steven Leuck skippered Charleston to a 4-2 mark in each of the next three rounds as Charleston finished the regatta three wins behind champion Connecticut College. Oliver Parsons, Hunter Skinner, Anna Sherry and Noelle Owen crewed for the Cougars.
The Cougars return to the water next weekend at the St. Mary's Women's on Saturday and Sunday in St. Mary's, Md. and the Graham Hall Team Race on Saturday and Sunday in Annapolis, Md.
