Kayla Ennis (French and Foreign Language Education) has been an exceptional hurdler, while also competing in sprints as a member of the College of Charleston women's track & field team.
She left her mark in the school record books with the sixth-fastest time in the outdoor 400-meter hurdles (1:05.02). A native of Pelion, S.C., and a first-generation college student, Ennis has succeeded on the track and in the classroom, while balancing a full-time job at Kickin' Chicken throughout her career.
"As a first-generation college student, my experience at College of Charleston was life changing. I'm eternally grateful to have been given the opportunity to learn and grow among so many wonderful individuals," Ennis said on her experience at #TheCollege
She served as Vice President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) during the 2019-20 school year, coordinating conference-wide fundraisers and participating in the Colonial Athletic Association SAAC Leadership Summit to discuss and vote on legislation for NCAA Division I Athletics in June of 2019. Ennis also served as Co-President of the French Club on campus and completed a 15-week clinical internship as a middle school teacher this spring.
During her internship, the French and foreign language education major read to students, organized a student reading room and offered classroom help and encouragement as part of a community service project at North Charleston Elementary School.
Editor's Note: The College of Charleston Athletics "Senior Spotlight" mini-series will highlight a senior from each of the program's 19 varsity sports over the next four weeks.
