Cougars Lead Edisto Island Invite After Day One

All five Cougars in the lineup are in the Top 17
CHARLESTON, S.C. --- A week after placing second overall at the 13-team Evie Odom Invitational, the College of Charleston women's golf team has stayed hot. The Cougars lead the field at the Edisto Island Invitational through 18 holes, with all five golfers in the lineup at T-17 or better.
Sophomore Viktoria Hund and freshman Emma Schimpf are on fire, sitting at second and third in the field of 68 competitors, respectively. Hund carded a 3-under 68 in a bogey-free round on Sunday on the Par-71 Plantation Course. She tallied three birdies on the round, including one on 17 and one on 18. Schimpf continued her stellar freshman campaign. After leading CofC at each of its first three tournaments, she fired a 2-under 69 on Sunday behind five birdies.
"We get accused of starting out slow sometimes, but we were on point from the get go today," head coach Jamie Futrell said. "Everyone played well. Kudos to Viktoria and Emily on their rounds."
Freshman Mary Kathryn Talledo is at T-6, giving CofC three Cougars in the Top 10 after Round 1. She fired an even-par 71 after an 11th place finish at the Evie Odom Invite last week. Senior Jodee Tindal is at T-13 with a 1-over par 72 and sophomore Emily Dunlap is at T-17 with a 2-over 73. Dunlap was anchored by four birdies, including three on the front nine.
Smith Knaffle, Othilie Lied, Kirsty Brodie and Isabella Britt are all competing as individuals this week. Knaffle posted five birdies and sits in the Top 15 overall at T-13. Back in action for the first time since the Cougar Classic, Lied's 2-over 73 on Sunday has her at T-17 and Brodie's 6-over 77 has her at T-42. Britt is making her CofC debut this week and shot a 7-over 78 to put her at T-49.
The Cougars continue action at the Edisto Island Invite with Round 2 tomorrow morning and finish the tournament with 18 final holes on Tuesday.
