
Wierzbicki Keys Cougars to Saturday Sweep of Hofstra

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Junior Lexi Wierzbicki exploded for 13 kills on 22 swings and junior Gabi Bailey accounted for three of the Cougars' eight service aces to lead College of Charleston to a Saturday sweep of CAA foe Hofstra in TD Arena.
The victory marks the second CAA sweep of the season for Charleston (12-8, 5-4 CAA) and snaps a four-match losing streak to Hofstra (11-9, 5-4 CAA) dating back to 2018. The Cougars won the match by scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-15 while combining for 42 kills, eight aces, six blocks and a .312 hitting percentage. Charleston limited Hofstra to 32 kills, four service aces, five blocks and a .167 clip on the attack.

With the Cougars holding a narrow 11-9 lead in the third set, Bailey connected for her first of three kills in the frame to spur Charleston on an 8-2 run that would put the set – and the match – out of reach for Hofstra.

The Cougars and Pride will meet again in the second match of the weekend on Sunday afternoon. First serve is slated for 12:00 p.m. from TD Arena.

Key Cougars
- Lexi Wierzbicki continued her stellar play with perhaps her best match of the season hitting a blistering .545 with 13 kills on 22 swings.
- Bailey turned in an all-around performance with 10 kills, four digs, three assists, two blocks and a match-high three aces.
- Senior Claire Campbell was easily the most efficient player on the floor with eight kills on 12 swings without an error. She also added a match-high four blocks.
- Freshman Jasmin Goei dished out 19 assists to along with four digs and an ace.
- Junior Logan Pope chipped in with six key kills on 11 swings.
- The Cougars hit well above .300 in both the first and third sets including an other-worldly .464 clip with 17 kills in the final frame.
- After Hofstra posted a .419 hitting percentage in the opening frame, Charleston's defense clamped down and held the Pride to only 15 kills and a .034 clip over the last two sets.
- Wierzbicki accounted for five of her 13 kills on only six swings in the third set.
- All eight of the Cougars' service aces came in the first two sets.
