BOSTON, Mass. --- Junior Cat Schmid set a new four-set, single-match record with seven service aces and senior Molly Russell surpassed the 100-career block mark to lead the College of Charleston volleyball team to a four-set win over Northeastern on Saturday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association play.

With the win, Charleston (14-10, 7-6 CAA) clinches a spot in this season's CAA Championship field with three matches to play. The Cougars won the match by scores of 25-17, 13-25, 25-11 and 25-20 while establishing a new four-set, single-match team record with 13 service aces. Charleston finished the match with 40 kills, 13 blocks and a .121 hitting percentage while limiting Northeastern (11-12, 7-6 CAA) to 33 kills, nine blocks, seven aces and a .039 attacking clip.

Critical Point
With Northeastern leading 5-4 early in the third set, senior Brooke Harris subbed in and sparked the Cougars on a 10-0 run that included a pair of service aces. Charleston would cap the run with a solo block from Russell and go on to win the set, 25-11.

Key Cougars

Schmid celebrated her first collegiate start in a big way setting a new four-set, single-match record with seven aces – including three in the opening set.
Russell put down eight kills on 14 swings without an error and added a match-high seven blocks to surpass the 100-block mark for her career.
Lexi Wierzbicki and Gabi Bailey collected 11 and nine kills, respectively, as Bailey also chipping in 14 digs.
Freshman Jasmin Goei posted a double-double with 26 assists and 12 digs to go along with three blocks and two aces.
Fellow rookie Tynley Smeltzer recorded a match- and season-high 24 digs, including nine in the second set.

Game Notes

The Cougars' 13 aces represent a new four-set, single-match record and marks CofC's highest single-match total since a 13-ace showing against South Carolina State in 2018.
Charleston reached double-digits in blocks for the eighth time this season with 13, including six each for Claire Campbell and Logan Pope.
Led by two aces from Harris, the Cougars dropped in five of their 13 aces in the third frame.
The Cougars accounted for 14 of their 40 kills in the fourth set while hitting .350 with 10 kills in the third.
