STORYLINES
- Charleston Basketball is riding a two-game win streak after knocking off Tulane, 81-77, on Tuesday night to improve to 4-1 at home and 5-2 overall. CofC is off to its best start through seven games since 2018-19 (a team that began 13-2).
- The Cougars finished November with at least five wins already for just the fourth time since 2009.
- CofC was buzzing on both ends of the floor against Tulane as the Cougars set season-highs for 3s made (12), assists (21) and steals (13). The 21 assists marked the most dished in a single game by CofC since racking up 22 against North Greenville on Dec. 13, 2015. It also marked the most steals in a game since collecting 14 vs. Delaware on March 4, 2016.
- Charleston heads to Furman seeking a second true road win before Dec. 4 for the first time since 2017 when the Cougars beat Charlotte and Alaska Anchorage on the road on Nov. 18 and Nov. 25.
- CofC earned its first true road win of the season last Saturday, knocking off SoCon-preseason favorite Chattanooga on Saturday, 68-66. The Cougars used a 20-0 run to erase a deficit and capped a strong second half with a game-winning tip in by Dimitrius Underwood. It snapped Chattanooga's 16-game home non-conference winning streak.
- The Cougars now face another strong SoCon squad on the road in Furman, a team CofC has a 31-5 edge against since becoming a Div. 1 program (42-42 overall). The Paladins won last year's matchup 81-57, but the Cougars have 13 wins in the last 15 meetings dating back to 2008.
- Charleston won its first ever meeting with Tulane on Tuesday, giving Pat Kelsey's squad three wins over Top-200 KenPom teams (No. 151 Tulane, No. 116 Chattanooga, No. 200 Lipscomb).
- CofC begins a stretch that includes five of the next six games away from home. The Cougars are 33-23 on the road since 2016-17.
- Charleston is racking up 82.5 possessions per game heading into Friday night's battle with Furman. That leads the nation. CofC leads the CAA in scoring with 81.3 PPG. Furman and Charleston are two of just 50 schools nationally averaging north of 81.0 PPG.
- The Cougars have been cashing in on those possessions with a high clip from beyond the arc, making at least nine threes in six of their seven games. Freshman Reyne Smith hit a season-best six on Tuesday and ranks 16th nationally with 3.57 threes per game.
CRASHING THE GLASS
- Charleston has been dominant on the glass this season, grabbing a CAA-high 42.9 boards per game. CofC is +43 on the glass through seven games, outrebounding five of seven opponents.
- CofC has now grabbed 10+ offensive boards in all seven contests thus far this season after snagging 14 more vs. Tulane and outpacing the Green Wave 39-26 on the glass. The Cougars rank sixth nationally in offensive rebounds per game (15.57).
- The relentless rebounding has been a team effort as seven Cougars are averaging at least 3.0 boards per game.
- Charleston leads the CAA in defensive rebound percentage (.783) after posting a defensive rebound percentage of 92 percent vs. Tulane. CofC has held two teams to three or fewer offensive boards in a game this season (Tulane and Lipscomb) after doing so just 17 total times over the last decade..
