CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Shayne McPherson has joined the College of Charleston beach volleyball program as an assistant coach for the 2022 season announced head coach Jason Kepner on Thursday.
"I am very excited to have Shayne join our beach program," Kepner said. "As I went through the search process, Shayne definitely stood out. She is a great person and role model for the girls. Her playing experience at Washington as an indoor and beach player will greatly benefit our program, especially the girls we have that do both here in Charleston. I look forward to everything that she can bring to our program this spring."
McPherson joins the Cougars' beach program following a standout four-year playing career at the University of Washington where she starred for both the indoor and beach teams. A four-year starter at libero with the Huskies' indoor team, McPherson finished her career ranked fourth in program history with 1,698 career digs and set the record for career sets played (495). She received All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention recognition as a senior in 2019, and led the Huskies to two NCAA Elite Eight appearances and one NCAA Sweet Sixteen berth during her indoor career.
"I wanted to be a part of a passionate and dedicated beach volleyball program that encompasses their values consistently within their program," McPherson said. "I am eager to share my knowledge of the game and experience playing at a high level to help take this program to new heights. I am thrilled to work with these driven student-athletes and help them develop holistically both on and off the sand."
The Seattle, Wash. native also thrived on the sand as well for the Huskies finishing her tenure as the winningest player in program history with 67 career wins including 57 dual victories. During her senior season in 2021 she and her partner, Chloe Loreen, set a single-season mark with 23 wins – breaking her own previous mark of 19 established during her sophomore campaign of 2018.
McPherson graduated from Washington with a bachelor's degree in communications and recently earned her master's in intercollegiate athletic leadership at Washington as well. She is currently in her first season as the assistant coach with the U17 team at SC Elite Volleyball Club in Charleston coaching both indoor and beach.
