Cougars Fall to UNCW in Opening Round of CAA Tournament

ELON, N.C. – The College of Charleston's season came to an end Wednesday with a 60-47 loss to UNCW in the opening round of the CAA Tournament at the Schar Center in Elon, N.C.
Amira Williams paced the Cougars with 11 points, six rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots as CofC ended its abbreviated campaign with a record of 6-9. The Seahawks advance to play Delaware in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Chelsea Wooten added nine points, and Arynn Eady and Anika McGarity both had eight. Eady also tied Tyler Gray for team rebounding honors with six.
Taylor Webster (17 points, 13 rebounds) and Carol-Anne Obusek (11 points, 12 boards) both had double-doubles for UNCW, and Dazia Powell added 14 points. The Seahawk defense held the Cougars to 23.9 percent shooting from the field.
A 3-pointer by Williams had CofC within 20-18 with 2:29 left in the first half, but UNCW scored the final seven points to take a nine-point lead into intermission.
The Cougars got their deficit down to six twice in the third quarter, the last time at 29-23 on a layup by Eady. But the Seahawks built their margin to 13 at the 1:43 mark, and CofC could not get within double digits the rest of the way.
