ATHENS, Ga. – For the second-consecutive tournament, freshman Viktoria Hund (Bremen, Germany) was the top finisher for the College of Charleston women's golf team adding another Top 25 finish to her dossier.
In the toughest field in college golf this year, Hund finished ahead of 14-of-28 Top 100-ranked golfers at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, including 28 invited to play in this year' Augusta National Women's Amateur.
She tied No. 42-ranked Jenny Bae of Georgia, Abbey Daniel of Mississippi State and No. 67 Amelia Garvey of USC for 22nd. Hund, who was in second after Round One, carded rounds of 68, 80 and 76 to finish at 8-over par for the tournament. It marked her third Top 25 finish this season in just five starts for the Cougars.
As a team, the Cougars placed 15th overall with a three-round score of 926, beating out Texas A&M, No. 36 Tennessee and host Georgia, which fielded two squads in the 18-team field. No. 1 South Carolina won the team title, while No. 6 Ole Miss was runner-up.
Eleven teams in the field were ranked in the Top 25 – a preview of multiple contenders for the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship.
"I thought we played well today," CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. "I was proud of them. This was our sixth competitive round in seven days. The team could have phoned it in today, but fought hard beating a couple of SEC teams for the tournament. Congrats to Viktoria on another great tournament."
After playing in back-to-back tournaments over the course of the last seven days, the Cougars will take a break before traveling to compete in the ECU Easter Invitational on April 3-4 in Greenville, N.C.
