SIMPSONVILLE, KY. – College of Charleston freshman Othilie Lied turned in the best 18 holes of her young career Wednesday, posting a final round 66 to tie the school record on the final day of the NCAA Louisville Regional in Simpsonville, Ky.
Lied's score of 6-under par matched runner-up Mikayla Bardwell of Tennessee for the lowest round of the three-day tournament. Lied birdied seven holes and had only one bogey to easily eclipse her previous low round of 72 done three times this season.
It was the fourth round of 66 in school history, following Olivia Hamilton and Victoria Huskey during the 2019-20 season and Isi Nilsson in 2017-18, and Huskey and Nilsson are the only other players to have a round of 6-under par. The lowest previous round in an NCAA Regional was 67 by Angie Hill in 2006.
Lied birdied four holes on the front nine including 15, 16 and 17 in succession and followed that up with a bogey-free final nine with three more birdies. She finished the tournament as the low scorer for CofC at 3-over par 219, good for a tie for 19th.
"I was proud of the way we played as a team today. They could have packed it in, but they battled to the end," said head coach Jamie Futrell.
"Othilie was amazing! We have been talking about her potential all spring, and she was the best player on the course today. What a way to finish her freshman year!"
Huskey followed Lied with a third-round score of 75 to finish at 225. Rounding out the Cougar lineup were Emily Dunlap (229), Viktoria Hund (230) and Jodee Tindal (232). CofC finished 15th in the team standings at 901, two shots ahead of CAA rival James Madison.
Florida State won the team title, and Emma Spitz of UCLA was the individual medalist.
