Charleston Comes Up Short at Elon, 65-60

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The College of Charleston women's basketball team (8-6, 0-3) dropped a hard-fought game on the road at Elon on Friday night.
First Half
- The Cougars got their first bucket of the game from Latrice Perkins to make it a 4-2 Elon lead, but the Phoenix would rip off a 13-2 run to take an early 17-4 advantage
- Charleston would score the final four points of the quarter and after one, Elon held a 17-8 lead
- After the Phoenix went up 19-8, the Cougars went on a 7-0 run to trim the score to just 19-15
- Both squads would trade baskets over the remaining three minutes of the half
- Elon took a slim 28-26 lead into the break
Second Half
- Grace Abercrombie continued to heat up in the third quarter. After an and-one and a deep three, Charleston took its first lead at 34-33 with 7:23 remaining in the third
- The margin would remain within one possession for much of the third quarter
- Latrice Perkins scored a second-chance layup with a minute to go in the third to tie the game at 41-41
- The Phoenix banked in a three at the buzzer to take a 44-41 lead into the fourth period
- Elon opened the fourth on an 8–4 tun to take a 52-45 lead with 6:05 to go
- Latrice Perkins got a steal and a three-point play to cut the Elon lead to 58-53 with around four minutes to play
- After Elon extended its lead to 60-53, CofC reeled off four consecutive points to cut the deficit to 60-57 with 1:52 left
- Elon connected on a three to make it a six-point game and, despite a flurry of offensive rebounds, CofC could not make it a one-possession game
- The Phoenix would go on to claim the 65-60 win
