Charleston got 44 points from its bench
Charleston, S.C. – Charleston Basketball lost a tight matchup against Hofstra on Thursday night, falling by a score of 76-73. The Cougars rallied after falling down 15, scoring 40 second half points, but ultimately fell short.
Charleston's bench provided the spark offensively as junior Brenden Tucker (17), sophomore Nick Farrar (15), and freshman Raekwon Horton (12) combined for 44 points off the pine. Senior Dimitrius Underwood also tacked on 10 points and grabbed nine boards.
More than half of the points from Charleston came off the bench compared to Hofstra's 14 bench points. The Cougars outpaced the Pride on the glass, 39-35, behind 14 offensive boards.
Hofstra jumped ahead early, surging in front 13-0 to start the game. The Cougars clawed back though, as Farrar made an immediate impact with a flurry of buckets, finishing with 11 first-half points en route to his career-high 15. He steered the Cougars on a 15-4 run to cut the deficit to six before the half.
Hofstra rebuilt an 11-point halftime edge, propelled by CAA-scoring leader Aaron Estrada, who finished with a game-high 30 points. Once again CofC responded, using a 9-0 spurt with relentless effort on the offensive glass to knot the game.
Estrada was electric down the stretch, scoring Hofstra's last 15 points. Despite a clutch Horton triple that pulled CofC within one in the final two minutes, the Cougars couldn't get over the hump as the Pride escaped with a tight win.
