
Cougars Place Fourth at McMillan Cup

ANNAPOLIS, Md. --- The College of Charleston offshore sailing team placed fourth at the McMillan Cup on Saturday and Sunday and the dinghy team battled to a 13th finish at the Open Atlantic Coast Championships in New London, Conn. to round out another busy for the Cougars.
The Cougars raced to a fourth-place performance at the McMillian Cup hosted by Navy accumulating 20 points from four races to finish four points ahead of fifth-place Coast Guard. Sims Whalen drove Charleston to a trio of fourth-place finishes with Megan Fetterley at primary trim, Braden Johnson at secondary trim, Kate Schmiege at pit, Sam Rosenbaum at squirrel, Evan Chenard at mast and Caroline Williams at bow.
Charleston's dinghy team battled fluctuating conditions and multiple course changes en route to a 13th-place finish at the Open Atlantic Coast Championships on Saturday and Sunday in New London, Conn. The Cougars finished the weekend with 304 points from 14 rotations placing 12th in A-Division and 14th in B-Division.
Freshman Noah Zittrer skippered the Cougars to 137 points in A-Division alongside junior crew Lucy Klempen. The duo collected six top-10 finishes including a second-place performance in the final race of the weekend. Freshman skipper Benjamin Dufour and junior crew Noelle Owen finished the regatta with 167 points in B-Division highlighted by a victory in the 11th rotation.
The Cougars return to the water on Friday, October 28 when they travel to Orlando, Fla. to compete for the SAISA Fall Women's and Open Championships hosted by Rollins. Racing in the women's event is scheduled for Friday and Saturday with the open event slated for Saturday and Sunday.
