ORLANDO, Fla. --- The College of Charleston sailing team finished second at the SAISA Fall Open Championship and third at the SAISA Fall Women's Championship to cap a solid three days on the water this past weekend.
The women's team opened the weekend with a third-place finish at the SAISA Fall Women's Championship on Friday and Saturday. Charleston finished the regatta eight points out of a tie for first with 37 points from six rotations. Emma Tallman and Roxy Snyder delivered the marquee performance of the weekend in B-Division winning the division by six points after finishing first in each of the first four races. Grace Squires and Lucy Klempen collected 27 points in A-Division and ended the regatta on a high note with a win in race six.
Charleston concluded the weekend with a second-place performance on Saturday and Sunday at the SAISA Fall Open Championship accumulating 103 points from 11 rotations. The Cougars were well on their way to a victory in the regatta but two disqualifications – one on Saturday and one Sunday – dropped them out of the lead and resulted in a 19-point gap between CofC and regatta champion Miami.
Axel Stordahl and Klempen sailed to a second-place finish in B-Division with 38 points highlighted by a pair of wins and nine top-five's. Benjamin Dufour skippered the first nine races in A-Division with Tallman taking the helm for the last two and Snyder crewing all 11 races. The trio finished the weekend with 65 points featuring four wins and three additional top-five finishes.
The Cougars return to the water on Saturday, Nov. 5 and Sunday, Nov. 6 at the Kennedy Cup in Annapolis, Md. and the ICSA Men's Singlehanded National Championships in Norfolk, Va.
