
Cougars Place Seventh at Kennedy Cup

ANNAPOLIS, Md. --- The College of Charleston offshore sailing team wrapped up its fall season with a seventh place finish at the Kennedy Cup on Saturday and Sunday while freshman Benjamin Dufour battled his way to a 13th-place performance at the ICSA Men's Singlehanded National Championship in Norfolk, Va.
The Cougars turned in a seventh-place performance at the Kennedy Cup, regarded as the unofficial keelboat national championship, with 47 points from seven races. Charleston notched a pair of top-five finishes including a top finish of fourth in race one. Driving for the Cougars was Sims Whalen with Julianna Corso, Sean Groskoph, Braden Johnson, Evan Chenard, Kate Schmiege and Caroline Williams crewing all seven races. Megan Fetterley was aboard for the first four races with Sam Rosenbaum joining the crew for the final three.
Dufour represented the Cougars at the ICSA Men's Singlehanded National Championship battling his way to a 13th-place finish in his first national championship appearance. The freshman accumulated 148 points from 14 races and posted a pair of top-five finishes – both in the opening two races of the regatta. He finished the weekend with seven top-10 performances.
The Cougars will conclude the fall season at the ICSA Match Race National Championships to be held in San Diego, Calif. from Friday, Nov. 11 through Sunday, Nov. 13.
