
Cougars and Bulldogs Set to Renew Historic Rivalry

CHARLESTON, S.C. - After a six-year hiatus, the College of Charleston men's basketball program will travel two miles to take on The Citadel Saturday afternoon at McAlister Field House.

STORYLINES
- Crosstown rivals Charleston and The Citadel will face off for the first time since the 2016 season on Saturday afternoon at The Citadel. The schools are separated by less than two miles.
- The Cougars hold a 57-40 series advantage and have won the last ten straight dating back to January 15, 2011.
- Charleston is riding a six-game win streak with an overall record of 7-1. The Cougars received 20 points in the latest AP Poll and are ranked third in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll behind Gonzaga and Drake.
- This will be the first time that coaches Pat Kelsey and Ed Conroy have faced off against each other in the rivalry game. Both men have been named finalists for the CollegeInsider.com Skip Prosser Man of the Year. This is Conroy's second stint at The Citadel having previously been the head coach from 2006-2010.
- CofC currently leads the CAA in scoring offense (81.5 ppg) and team offensive rebounds (12.5 rpg).
- This will be Cougars second contest of the season away from the friendly confines of TD Arena having played on their home court during the Charleston Classic. The only other road contest of the season for Kelsey's squad was to Chapel Hill, where the Cougars led at the half over the then top ranked Tar Heels.
- The Bulldogs are taking on their second-straight local team having defeated Charleston Southern on the road Wednesday evening 76-73.
- Charleston opened the season playing six straight programs that participated in 2022 March Madness (Chattanooga, #1 North Carolina, Richmond, Davidson, Colorado State, Virginia Tech)
- All seven of the opposing teams the Cougars opened the season with were rated higher than the Cougars in the KenPom ratings.
- The Cougars have been rewarded for their efforts and are receiving votes in both major polls and are currently ranked #3 in the CollegeInsider. com Mid-Major Top 25 poll.
- Kelsey's squad received 20 points in the latest AP Poll, three spots outside of the top 25.
- CBS Sports published their first RPI rating of the season on 11/27 with the College of Charleston Cougars leading the nation. RPI factors in a team's schedule along with their wins and losses.
- The game will broadcast on ESPN+. Cougar fans can also listen to Everett German and Danny Johnson live on the Varsity App.
- Kelsey has purchased $1,000 worth of tickets for current CofC students. Current students should check their email for more information.
