RICHMOND, VA. – College of Charleston freshman
Jazmyn Stone has been selected the CAA Player of the Week after helping the Cougars go 3-0 against Radford, Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern.
Stone is the first freshman to earn a conference player of the week award since the Cougars became a Division I program in 1989-90.
Stone averaged 24.3 points per game on 26-of-50 shooting from the field and added 13 rebounds, nine assists and 10 steals. She began the week with 21 points vs. the Highlanders and 20 vs. the Chanticleers before tallying a career-high 32 in Sunday's city rivalry win over the Buccaneers.
Including a 27-point performance vs. Gardner-Webb on November 23, Stone has scored 100 points over the past four games, a total matched only by
Jenna Annecchiarico since the 2004-05 season. Stone is the first Cougar freshman in at least the past 20 years with more than two 20-point games in her debut season.Â
Stone has raised her average to 15.4 ppg during her scoring spree to rank ninth in the CAA. She is also fifth in the conference in field goal percentage (.470) and tied for 11th in steals (1.86 spg).
