
Cougars Win Both Brackets at UNCW Pairs Tournament

WILMINGTON, N.C. --- College of Charleston's No. 1 pair of Sky Benjamin and Ella Reames won the bracket featuring each team's top three pairings, and No. 6 duo Jasmin Goei and Marie Martinsen finished first in the four through seven bracket to close out the weekend in style for the College of Charleston beach volleyball team at the UNCW Tournament.
Benjamin and Reames cruised to the finals in the ones, twos and threes tournament and posted a straight-set 21-14, 21-17 victory in the championship match to win the bracket. No. 3 duo Maria Zweig and Emma Falk finished fifth while No. 2 pair Amani Dunston and Sofie Vogel placed ninth.
The Cougars' sixth pairing of Goei and Martinsen were victorious in the tournament for the fours, fives, sixes and sevens advancing to the finals and winning the first set, 21-16, before the match was called due to time. The duos of Gabi Bailey/Kyra Thompson and Rebeca Olariu/Mikaela Dougherty tied for third while Brooke Harris and Molly Russell placed fifth. Alli Grant Avery, Tynley Smeltzer and Alexa Psotka teamed up for a fifth-place finish as well.

The Cougars will return home to host their second tournament next weekend when Charleston welcomes Huntsville, Texas A&M Kingsville, UNCW, Erskine, Tusculum and Catawba to Creekside Tennis & Swim Club for the CofC Beach Blast on Friday, March 25 through Sunday, March 27.
