The Cougars compete in Harrisburg, Pa., from May 5-7
HARRISBURG, PA. – The College of Charleston Equestrian program will make its 28th all-time appearance at IHSA Nationals in program history this week. The Cougars will compete at Nationals from May 5-7 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania against the nation's best programs.
CofC returns to the premier event in the sport for the first time since 2018, when the Cougars placed eighth in the country in Harrisburg. Charleston has placed in the Top-8 at IHSA Nationals five times since 2010.
The Cougars clinched their spot at Nationals after earning Team Reserve Champions at the Zone 5 Finals in early April. The top teams from every Zone advanced to Nationals as more than 20 programs converge on Harrisburg from Thursday-Saturday.
Seven Cougars will represent The College this week as CofC competes as a team, including McLean Holmes, Connelly Grant, Caroline Berg, Lily Borders, Natalie Juckett, Kathryn McCarthy and Kate Coffey. Four CofC horses have also made the trip – Lionel, Johnny, Fergus and Reggie.
"We just landed in Harrisburg to meet our four horses who traveled all night to be at these IHSA National Championships," head coach Natasha V. McCarthy said. "The team is eager to get into the schooling ring today & tomorrow before we begin Thursday. We are excited to be here!"
Thursday marks the first day of competition in which Holmes and Grant kick things off for CofC. Holmes will compete in both the Collegiate Cup Limit Equitation Over Fences and On-the-Flat. Grant is set to ride in the Intermediate On-The-Flat.
Friday's Day Two will see a trio of Cougars take to the ring. Berg is competing in the Intermediate Over Fences first thing in the morning. Later in the day, Borders will ride in the Introductory Flat and Juckett in the Novice Equitation Flat.
Saturday will feature the final day of competition for CofC. McCarthy and Coffey, who have both put together stellar decorated seasons in the open classes will ride on Day Three. McCarthy is set to compete in the Open Fences and Coffey in the Open Flat as she wraps up her illustrious career.
