CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston Athletics Department has posted another banner year in the classroom, receiving a single-year NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) score of 986. That marks the third consecutive year of 985 or better, which qualifies CofC for the NCAA's Division I academic performance-based revenue distribution.
Five CofC programs earned perfect single-year APR of 1,000, including men's soccer, women's golf, beach volleyball, men's tennis and men's cross country. Additionally, women's golf, men's cross country and beach volleyball give Charleston a trio of programs with perfect multi-year scores of 1,000. Each would have received APR Public Recognition Awards, however, the NCAA will not be releasing that data due to COVID-19.
Head women's golf coach Jamie Futrell continues to set the standard, as his program has now posted nine consecutive perfect multi-year APR scores. That marks the longest string of consecutive years of recognition by any varsity sport at The College. Women's golf's 10 total seasons of multi-year APR scores of 1,000 are the most by any program at CofC and all have come during the Futrell coaching era.
Head men's soccer coach Keith Wiggans has made history as he nears his third campaign at the helm. Wiggans guided the men's soccer program to its second-ever perfect single-year APR score and its first since 2009-10.
Additionally, beach volleyball continues to shine in the classroom under head coach Jason Kepner, as the Cougars posted a sixth consecutive perfect multi-year APR score. The men's cross country program under head coach Amy Seago now has six total perfect multi-year APR scores in school history and its first since 2013-14.
Other highlights include the baseball program setting an all-time program record with a multi-year APR score of 972. That bests the previous program record of 969. Head coach Chad Holbrook's program sets the mark after claiming a regular season conference title in 2022.
