BOSTON, Mass. – The No. 18 Cougars continued to make history with their 21
st win of the season on Saturday with an 87-61 victory at Northeastern. Charleston is now 9-0 in conference play.
Ryan Larson posted seven points in the opening three minutes to quickly push a ten-point Cougar lead. Charleston held Northeastern to just 1-for-7 from the field in a six-minute stretch. The Huskies found their rhythm, going on a 7-0 run while holding the Cougars scoreless for five minutes until
Babacar Faye sank two from the charity stripe to regain a five-point edge.
In a key momentum shift, Charleston went on a 10-0 run highlighted by back-to-back
Pat Robinson III driving lay-ups and a
Raekwon Horton diving save leading to a
Ben Burnham three to take the 33-21 advantage.
It was all Charleston from there as the Cougars ended the half on a 19-5 run to enter the half up 42-26. Nine Cougars scored in the opening frame while outrebounding the Huskies 22-16.
Charleston put their foot on the gas and never turned back in the second half, outshooting the Huskies 48% to 40% in the frame to secure the 87-61 victory.
