CHARLESTON, S.C. – The No. 18 College of Charleston men's basketball team's 20-game win streak came to an end on Saturday night at TD Arena as the Hofstra Pride defeated the Cougars 85-81.
Charleston stormed out to a 6-0 lead in a stretch that included two driving layups by
Ante Brzovic. Hofstra responded with a 6-0 run of their own to tie the game four minutes into the contest.
The Cougars made four straight from the field to pull ahead and take a 19-13 edge and extended it to 24-18 as
Raekwon Horton sank Charleston's first triple of the day 11 minutes into the game.
Hofstra took their first lead of the game 34-33 with four minutes left in the frame before a
Ryan Larson layup gave it immediately back to Charleston. With ten seconds remaining, Larson found Brzovic on a perfectly placed pass for a slam dunk to give CofC a 46-44 halftime advantage.
Pat Robinson III led the Cougars with 11 points in the frame.
The teams traded points and leads to open the second period before Hofstra took a 70-73 lead, their largest of the game thus far. Charleston went cold during a five-minute stretch, going 1-for-9 from the field.
From that point on, Hofstra had an answer for every potential Cougar comeback ultimately leading to the upset victory in Charleston.
