CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston cross country teams travel to a familiar venue on Friday when they compete in the Royals Challenge at McAlpine Park in Charlotte.
Both teams are entered in the Gold Division with the women's 5k at 5:05 p.m. followed by the men's 8k at 5:45 p.m.
This is the seventh time the Cougars will be running at McAlpine since 2015, and some of the fastest times in school history have been established on that course.
Five women have entered the top 10 in the Cougar record book at McAlpine, led by Tess Masselink's No. 2 time of 17:25 in 2018.
Three men's runners posted top 10 times on the course, including current interim head coach Chris Bailey who ran a 25:33.6 at the Charlotte Invitational in 2010 to place seventh.
Several freshmen are off to strong starts, led by Mitchel Drees who has been the top Charleston finisher in all three meets this season. Rob DiMedio, Ben Ashmore and Roger Brown have also scored for the men as has Savannah Stoutt for the women.
