Burnham Has Career Night as Cougars Clinch Share of Regular Season Title

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's basketball team dominated Stony Brook 92-52 in the final game of the regular season to clinch a share of the CAA regular season title, finishing the CAA slate with a record of 16-2 and 28-3 overall.

The Cougars only trailed only once at 5-4 in the first three minutes of the game then never looked back. Ante Brzovic blocked two shots in the opening minutes to start a powerful defensive performance, while Ben Burnham charged a personal seven point run to bring the Cougars up 14-9. CofC held the Seawolves without a basket over a four-minute stretch in the first half.

Charleston forced their fourth turnover of the game that converted into a Burnham slam on the other end to kickstart a career afternoon for the sophomore. The stretch continued with a 6-0 run to push a 27-17 lead before Burnham continued his first half dominance, dropping 17 points and collecting six boards. CofC ended the half on a 20-5 run to enter the locker room up 41-22.

Charleston continued their hot streak throughout the second half, never allowing the Seawolves to ever come within 20. Reyne Smith lobbed a breakaway slam dunk to Babacar Faye on a highlight reel play for a 29-point lead before four consecutive triples led a 19-1 run to seal the victory.

Game Notes

CofC held Stony Brook to 52 points in the game, the fewest they've allowed an opponent to score this season. The 40-point win marks the largest margin of victory this season.
Six different Cougars grabbed at least five rebounds in the performance.
The Cougars shot 49 percent from the field in the commanding win while their 63 bench points are also a season high.
