Men's Basketball Starts CAA Championship Sunday

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The College of Charleston men's basketball team begins the postseason journey to the CAA title game on Sunday with a quarterfinal contest against either No. 7 North Carolina or No. 10 Stony Brook. Action is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Entertainment and Sports Arena.

STORYLINES
  • Charleston finished the regular season with an overall record of 28-3 to lead the nation in wins and a 16-2 conference record.
  • Hofstra's 16-2 matching record and head-to-head win over 16-2 Charleston earned the Pride the No. 1 seed and placed the Cougars at No. 2. 
  • Hofstra and Charleston are the first duo of CAA teams to both reach 16 conference wins in the same season; only three CAA teams had achieved 16-2 regular season conference records prior to this season. Both teams earned a share of the regular season title.
  • Charleston will get the evening session started Sunday with a game at 6:00 p.m. on FloSports against the winner of No. 7 North Carolina A&T and No. 10 Stony Brook on Saturday night. 
  • The Cougars won their only matchups of the year against the duo of CAA newcomers. The team enters Washington on seven game winning streak, beating their opponents by an average of 24 points per game throughout the stretch.
  • The winner of Sunday's contest will advance to the semifinal round to play the winner of No. 3 Towson and No. 6 Delaware / No. 11 Northeastern.
  • Charleston currently ranks 51 in the NCAA NET Rankings while ranking second in the country in offensive rebounds per game (13.71) and third in bench points per game (34.03).
LAST TIME VS. NO. 7 NORTH CAROLINA A&T
  • Charleston defeated the Aggies 92-79 on January 4 in Greensboro. Dalton Bolon recorded his first double-double as a Cougar in the contest with 22 points and ten rebounds
  • Ante Brzovic and Pat Robinson III each contributed 12 points followed by Horton and Burnham with 11 to total five Cougars scoring in double-digits while Babacar Faye was a defensive presence, grabbing seven rebounds.
  • Charleston grabbed 13 offensive rebounds that led to 19 second chance points while the Cougars bench contributed 40 points. Charleston held the nation's longest winning streak at 14 as ten different Cougars scored in the game.
LAST TIME VS. NO. 10 STONY BROOK
  • Ben Burnham dropped a career high 25 points, shooting 10-for-13 while Raekwon Horton added 14 points behind a career best four triples in Charleston's regular season finale vs. the Seawolves.
  • The Cougars dished out 21 assists for a balanced attack led by Ryan Larson with five and Brzovic and Jaylon Scott with four.
  • CofC held Stony Brook to 52 points in the game, the fewest they've allowed an opponent to score this season. The 40-point win marks the largest margin of victory this season. Six different Cougars grabbed at least five rebounds in the performance.
  • The Cougars shot 49 percent from the field in the commanding win while their 63 bench points were also a season high.
