
Irish National Team Member Fulton Signs with Cougars

CHARLESTON, S.C. – CJ Fulton has signed a letter of intent to the join the College of Charleston men's basketball program for the 2023-24 season head coach Pat Kelsey announced Friday.
Fulton played two seasons for Lafayette College in the Patriot League. The Irish guard lead the Leopards in both assists (150) and steals (59) as a co-captain this past season on his way to Third Team All-Patriot League honors. He averaged 10.4 points per game, 5.0 assists per game, 5.1 rebounds per game, and 36.3 minutes per game during the 2022-23 campaign.
"CJ possesses qualities that I love in a player - he is tough, smart, and efficient," said Kelsey. "He led the country in assist to turnover ratio as a freshman and was top five as a sophomore. He effects the game on both sides of the floor as this season he was top 50 in the country in steals."
Fulton also excels in the classroom, having earned a spot on the five-member Academic All-Patriot League squad while being selected to the College Sports Communicator's Academic All-District list.
Selected to the Patriot League All-Rookie Team in 2021-2022, Fulton won nine All-Ireland National Championships with St. Malachy's College from 2014-2020 before spending a prep year at The Winchendon School in 2020-21. He was selected as the 2019 and 2020 Basketball Ireland U19 Male National Schools Player of the Year and won the Brian Molley Cup in 2019 and 2017. Additionally, he played on the AAU circuit with Belfast Star in the All-Ireland Super League, winning National Young Player of the Year in 2019 and 2020.
"CJ has experience at the highest level of international basketball (FIBA) as he is a member of the Irish National Team and will compete this summer in World Cup qualifying representing his country," added Kelsey. "CJ fits our culture and what we are all about. He is a great student, possess high character and is a passionate student of the game."
He previously represented Ireland at the U18 FIBA European Basketball Championships in Romania, averaging 9.5 points, 5.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.8 steals per contest, and the U16 FIBA European Basketball Championships in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2018 and Bulgaria in 2017.
Fulton joins transfers Bryce Butler and Kobe Rodgers along with incoming freshmen Mayar Wol and James Scott in the 2023-2024 signing class.
