Charleston Volleyball Collects Pair of AVCA Team Academic Awards

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The College of Charleston indoor and beach volleyball programs earned the UMSC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2022-23 season, as announced Thursday afternoon by the organization.
 
The award is presented annually since 1992-93 by the American Volleyball Coaches Association to any collegiate team that maintains a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 during the academic year.
 
Indoor volleyball turned in 3.40 Team GPA to go along with 14 wins highlighted by weekend sweeps of rival UNCW, Northeastern, Stony Brook and North Carolina A&T. Claire Campbell earned All-CAA Second Team honors for the Cougars finishing third in the conference in hitting percentage (.358) and averaged 1.99 kills per set.
 
Beach volleyball recorded a 3.57 Team GPA as well as 21 wins and the No. 2 seed in the inaugural 2023 Sun Belt Beach Volleyball Championships. The Cougars posted 20-plus wins for the second time in as many seasons and third time as a program. Four student-athletes – Gabi Bailey, Kyra Thompson, Ella Reames and Maria Zweig – earned All-Sun Belt honors as well.
