CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston Athletic Fund has set yet another record-breaking fundraising year. CAF's annual fund, the Cougar Club, raised a record $1.5 million during the 2022-23 fiscal year, marking an increase from the $1.1 million raised the previous year. The annual fund raises money specifically directly to assist with student-athlete scholarships.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the CAF Board and our staff for their outstanding efforts to again increase the amount of support," said Jerry Baker, Executive Director of the Cougar Club. "Our numbers are a true testament to the great support of our loyal members and fans. Our supporters find a way every year to continue and upgrade their support for our student/athletes and coaches."
Under the direction of Baker, CAF has recorded a record-breaking year each fiscal year since 2018. In total, CAF raised $5.9 million for the athletic department through special fundraising events, sport-specific giving and other initiatives. Funding from the Charleston Athletic Fund provides financial resources to more than 350 student-athletes competing in 19 varsity sports at The College.
"On behalf of our student-athletes, coaches and staff, we would like to thank the thousands of fans that continue to raise the bar in their support of Charleston Athletics. Not only did we achieve record levels of donations this past year, all of our external revenues experienced new all-time highs thanks in large part to the 31-win season for our men's basketball team," said Director of Athletics Matt Roberts. "From ticket sales, sponsorships, licensing, and concessions, it is clear that this program is on the rise. We look forward to more growth this year."
