WILMINGTON, N.C. – Ante Brzovic scored 27 points in a rowdy Trask Coliseum as the College of Charleston men's basketball team fell 78-69 to UNCW on Saturday in Wilmington.
The Cougars and Seahawks traded points early with neither team taking more than a three-point lead through 13 minutes into the contest.
Jordan Crawford gave the Cougars a five-point edge after back-to-back triples for a 27-22 lead with six minutes remaining in the half. The lead held as the Cougars entered the locker room up 38-33.
Ante Brzovic led all players in the frame with 13 points while the Cougars shot just under 50% from the field.
Charleston went 4-for-5 from the field to open the second half. A
Reyne Smith triple pushed the Charleston lead to nine at 63-56 with ten minutes left in game.
UNCW slowly crawled back and took a 67-65 lead with seven minutes to play, their first since 19-17 at the ten-minute mark in the first half. Charleston struggled from the free throw line, going 0-for-5 late as the fouls began to pile on. Both teams went on a three-minute scoring drought before UNCW went on a 6-0 run to take a 73-69 advantage with just under two minutes to play.
