HAMPTON, Va. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team scored the most points in a CAA contest so far this season in a 107-86 win over Hampton Thursday night.
The Cougars controlled the glass early, grabbing six offensive rebounds in the first two minutes of play. While grabbing their misses, Charleston struggled from the field going 1-for-10 during a nearly three-minute stretch. Khalil London broke the drought with a trey to bring the Cougars within two at 19-17 before Ben Burnham tied it on a wide-open drive to the basket.
Back-to-back threes from Reyne Smith and a series of buckets in the paint from Ante Brzovic helped the Cougars break away late and enter the locker room up 43-39. Brzovic had 16 points and seven rebounds in the first 20 minutes.
Frankie Policelli drained a three-pointer to start the second half in what would be high-powered offensive half from both teams.
Hampton went on a 12-2 run to come within three at 70-67. London followed suit from his first half performance with another three to retake a six-point advantage at 73-67 with ten minutes to play.
The Pirates could not stop Brzovic, who reached a season-high 29 points with six minutes to play. Both teams were firing offensively trading buckets on both ends of the court. Bryce Butler went on a 8-0 run to eclipse the 100 point mark, the first time a team has scored 100 points in league play so far this season. Charleston ended the contest on a 17-3 run to secure the victory.
