
Men's Basketball Opens CAA Play at Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, NY - The College of Charleston men's basketball team opens CAA play on Thursday evening at Hofstra. Action is set for 7:00 p.m.

STORYLINES
- Charleston travels to Hofstra to open the CAA slate against the Pride. Both teams earned a share of the regular season title a year ago. Charleston was selected first in the CAA preseason poll with Hofstra coming in at No. 4.
- The Cougars and Pride met just once during the 2022-23 season at TD Arena. Hofstra won the contest 85-81 and snapped the Cougars 20-game win streak. Ante Brzovic led the Cougars with 18 points and eight rebounds while Aaron Estrada paced the Pride with 25 points and seven rebounds.
- Hofstra holds a slight 8-10 series advantage having won four of the last five meetings. The teams will meet again to close out the regular season on Mar. 2 in Charleston.
- The Cougars have won five straight and eight of their last nine games.
- Charleston currently ranks third in the country in three-point attempts per (31.7) and 29th in three pointers made per game (9.7). Hofstra leads the conference in the statistical ranking and ranks eighth nationally (10.9).
- Reyne Smith set the Charleston single-game three-point record vs. Saint Joseph's on Dec. 21 with nine makes. The junior is currently tied for third in total triples in school history (220).
- Rookie James Scott has earned back-to-back CAA Rookie of the Week nods. He has not missed a field goal since Dec. 2 having made 23 straight. The current NCAA record is 30 straight by Yale's Brandon Sherrod in 2016.
- Hofstra finished the difficult non-conference portion of its schedule with a 7-6 record after dropping a narrow 84-79 decision to St. John's on December 30 at UBS Arena. Tyler Thomas had 24 points and nine rebounds in the game, while Darlinstone Dubar added 23 points for the Pride.
- Thomas leads the way with 22.2 points per game with Dubar second on the squad with 18.2 points per outing. Jaquan Carlos is third with 10.6 points per game and leads the way with 6.8 assists per outing.
- The game will air on FloHoops and MSG2. The game has also been selected as the feature FloHoops live-to-social game of the evening meaning fans can tune in for free on FloSports YouTube, Facebook, and X pages.
