
Men's Basketball Faces South Florida in Home Opener

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's basketball team returns home to TD Arena for the first time this season to host South Florida on Friday, November 8. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m and marks the first home game of the Chris Mack era.

- The Cougars are coming off a 90-80 win over Southern Illinois at the Field of 68 Opening Day Showcase in Sioux Falls, South Dakota - the first Division 1 vs. Division 1 win in the country.
- CAA Preseason Player of the Year Ante Brzovic had a game high 27 points, nine rebounds, and four assists for Charleston. His 11 made field goals tie his previous career high.
- Deywilk Tavarez and CJ Fulton each contributed 17 points. Tavarez was a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc, while Fulton's 17 are his most in a Charleston uniform. He added seven assists with just one turnover at the point guard position.
- Following Monday's win, Charleston ranks 39th in the country in field goal percentage (.564). Individually, Brzovic ranks fifth in made field goals (11) and 20th in defensive rebounds per game (9).
- The contest marks the first game of the season sellout for Charleston, including all available student section tickets.
- Prior to the start of the contest, Charleston will hold a moment of silence for University of South Florida head men's basketball coach Amir Abdur-Rahim who passed away on October 24 at just 43 years old. Amir served as an assistant coach with the Cougars from 2012-2014. He left Charleston better than he found it and left a lasting mark on everyone he touched.
- Chris Mack takes over the fifth winningest program in Division I men's basketball history in Charleston.
- Charleston's 69% all time winning percentage sits only behind Kentucky (76%), North Carolina (73.4%), Kansas (72.9%), and Duke (71.2%). UCLA (68.8%), UNLV (68.5%), and Syracuse (68.2%) follow the Cougars.
- The Cougars have made seven NCAA tournament appearances and six NIT appearances in addition to winning the NAIA National Championship in 1983 under John Kresse. Since joining the CAA in 2013, Charleston has won three conference titles (2018,2023,2024).
- Cougar Nation is a big part of the sustained success. For the second consecutive season, the department has sold out men's basketball season tickets in TD Arena prior to the start of the 2024-25 season. This season was historic, selling out in quicker fashion than the 2022-23 season.
- Ante Brzovic returns for his third season in Charleston. A two-time All-CAA selection, he was named the unanimous CAA Preseason Player of the Year, Blue Ribbon CAA Preseason Player of the Year, and and to the Bracketeer.Org All-American Watch List
- Brzovic, who currently has 1,356 career points, opened the season vs. Southern Illinois with a 27 point, nine rebound, and four assist outing in 36 minutes of play.
- The Croatian scored the most points of any CAA player on opening day (27).
- The Bulls, led by interim head coach Ben Fletcher, are coming off a 98-83 loss to No. 21 Florida on Monday night in Jacksonville.
- The Bulls opened the season with four players in double figures for the second straight year. Jamille Reynolds led the way with a team-high 17 points. Kasen Jennings recorded 15 points. He led the team with three made 3-pointers, one shy of tying a career-high. Kobe Knox produced a 14-point performance, while Jimmie Williams added 10.
- South Florida made 13 3-pointers and shot 48.1 percent from long range.
