
Second Half Run Propels Cougars to Victory

CHARLESTON, S.C. – A 23-0 second half run propelled the College of Charleston men's basketball team to a 77-67 victory over Wofford Monday night in Charleston.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Deywilk Tavarez scored the first eight points of the game for Charleston before back-to-back three points plays – a triple from Derrin Boyd and old fashioned three-point play from AJ Smith – put the Cougars up 14-9 after the first media timeout.
- The Terriers went 1-9 from the field to help give the Cougars a 20-12 edge. Charleston used the momentum to go on a 6-0 run to make it 29-17 with eight minutes to play.
- Five Cougar turnovers coupled with a seven-minute scoring drought allowed Wofford to take a 34-31 lead with five second to play in the first half. An Ante Brzovic and-1 opportunity tied the game at 34-34 entering the locker room. Brzovic led the Cougars with nine points in the half.
- Tavarez started the second half with back-to-back triples, his third and fourth of the game, before Charleston went on a 23-0 run complimented by three blocks for Brzovic and five makes from behind the arc.
- Wofford broke the run on a three with 11 minutes to play, their first points since 19:22 in the second half. The Cougars went 0-6 from the field after the run, but were able to keep enough distance to hold on for the 77-67 victory.

KEY COUGARS
- Brzovic had a game-high 21 points to go with seven rebounds and six assists. He also recorded a career-high five blocks.
- Tavarez matched his Cougar high with 17 points, going 4-6 from three-point range.
- CJ Fulton dished out eight assists. The point guard also grabbed six rebounds while going 3-5 from the field.
- Smith (12) and Boyd (11) rounded out the double figure scorers.
- Adam Comer grabbed a career-high four rebounds.

GAME NOTES
- Charleston shot 46% from the field compared to 33% from Wofford.
- The Cougars had a season high six blocks and shot %0% from three for the second time this season.
UP NEXT
- Charleston, now 8-2 on the year, will travel to Hawaii for the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic on December 22, 23, and 25.
- The Cougars will open play against Oregon State on December 22. The contest will air on ESPN2.
