PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The College of Charleston women's basketball team took down Northwestern 68-62 inside Hagan Arena on Friday afternoon in their first game of the Hawk Classic. With the win, the Cougars improve to 9-1 season and earn their first Power Four win since 2009.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Cougars had a hot start to the contest, when a 10-0 run put Charleston up 12-2 in the first quarter.
Northwestern closed the gap in the second frame, heading into halftime with a 31-29 lead for the Cougars. Another tight quarter left the two teams tied heading into the final 10.
The Wildcats took a five-point lead with four minutes remaining in the final frame, but a layup from Jami Hill cut the lead to three.
After a split pair of free throws for Northwestern, a three-point basket from Taryn Barbot closed the gap to just one point.
Tied with less than one minute remaining in the matchup, a jump shot from Taylor Barbot gave Charleston the lead. After going 6-for-6 from the charity stripe in the final minute, the Cougars kept the lead for the final whistle.
The last time CofC defeated a Power Four opponent it was also against Northwestern, giving Charleston a 2-0 record against the Wildcats.

LEADING COUGARS

Taryn Barbot led the Cougars with a game-high 24 points, complimented by five buckets behind the paint and eight rebounds.
Taylor Barbot also tallied double-digits, earning 15 points along with four steals.
Lara Rohkohl tallied a team-high nine rebounds alongside nine points on the day.
