CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team earned a 80-70 win over Drexel Saturday in Charleston to remain in first place in the CAA standings.
Drexel jumped out to an early 15-6 edge. Solid defensive efforts from
James Scott helped lead to buckets on the offensive end for
Khalil London and
Bryce Butler as the Cougars crawled back within four at 17-13 with ten minutes to play in the half.
Just two minutes later,
Frankie Policelli tied it at 21-21 on a three and pushed the Cougars to their first lead with yet another triple a minute later.
Bryce Butler snapped a 11-0 Drexel run just before the half to spark an 8-3 Cougar run highlighted by a Policelli three at buzzer to enter the locker room tied at 35-35. Policelli had a Cougar best five threes in the frame.
Policelli tied his career-best with his sixth three five minutes into the second half to propel a 12-0 Cougar run that ignited TD Arena. Charleston took their largest lead at 62-50 and never looked back to secure their third straight victory.
KEY COUGARS
- Policelli scored a season-high 22 points going 6-for-10 from three-point range.
- Ante Brzovic added 19 points followed by CJ Fulton with a season-high 13.
- Policelli, Brzovic and Kobe Rodgers led the Cougars with five rebounds each.
GAME NOTES
- Charleston made 13 triples, their 14th time making 10 or more this season.
- The Cougars shot 56.7% from the field in the second half.
