Cougars Fall to Seahawks

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The College of Charleston softball team dropped a 9-4 decision to UNCW in the first game of the rivalry series.
Savannah Lockhart kickstarted the Cougar offense with an RBI single in the opening inning and came home to score the second run after a Seahawk error.
Audri Bates led off the second inning with a bunt single and stole third base before being driven home by Malaka Belser to take a 3-0 lead.
The Seahawks struck back with two bases-loaded walks in the bottom of the second and scored two more in the third to take a 4-3 lead. UNCW then rallied for four runs in the fourth highlighted by a two-run shot.
The Cougars were unable to complete the comeback despite three hits in the seventh inning and Karlee Hughes' RBI single.
Charleston and Wilmington will meet again Saturday afternoon for the second game of the series at 4:00 p.m.
